Polk City is a beautiful small town ideally located along the Interstate 4 corridor. Perfectly placed between Tampa and Orlando, and sometimes humorously referred to as “Orlampa” because of its location, Polk City is a growing bedroom community for commuters. Part of Polk County, Polk City is approximately 45 minutes from downtown Orlando driving east and about the same distance to Tampa driving west. Tampa has breathtaking beaches and rich history and Orlando has many fine dining opportunities, shopping, and numerous theme parks including Disney, Universal Studios, and Sea World. However, Polk City is no stranger to world-renowned theme parks.

Polk City is home to the world’s greatest aviation attraction, Fantasy of Flight. Fantasy of Flight is sited directly next to Interstate 4 and is home to over 40 rare and vintage aircraft. This unique attraction offers guided tours including areas of the facility where airplanes are being restored; an opportunity to get inside the cockpit of a Corsair fighter; and you can have the simulated thrill of flying by way of Fantasy of Flight’s state-of-the-art hang glide simulator. Polk City is also the site of the General James A. Van Fleet State Trail. The Van Fleet Trail starts in Polk City and extends 29.2 miles north to the town of Mabel. This famous Florida State Park is popular with residents for activities such as walking, running, inline skating, hiking, horseback riding, and biking. The Van Fleet Trail also gives people a chance to see some Florida wildlife such as egrets, herons, and raptors.

Maintaining its rural charm for its nearly 2,000 residents, Polk City has limited commercial development. Polk City’s lovely Freedom Park provides fun outdoor amenities to enjoy the Florida sunshine including two basketball courts, a tennis court, and two racquetball courts. During June and July Polk City sponsors summer youth recreation programs.

Incorporated in 1925, Polk City has a long agricultural history. Polk City still maintains its close connection with nature as the sweet smell of orange blossoms still fills the community and Polk City contains the highest elevations of the Florida aquifer where 90 percent of Central Florida’s drinking water originates.

Polk City has many beautiful single-family homes and manufactured homes. Many newer Florida-style homes and older traditional homes can be found on quiet country roads and along shimmering lakefronts. The average listing price of a single-family home in Polk City is $222,684. Part of Polk County Public Schools, Polk City Elementary School is the only school within the city limits; middle school and high school students attend schools in nearby towns. Central Florida is home to many renowned colleges and universities and several are sited close to Polk City in the nearby town of Lakeland is prestigious Florida Southern College that boasts Frank Lloyd Wright architecture, the University of South Florida, and Southeastern University.
