Surrounded by water, Geneva, Florida, is often referred to as “that lost world” perhaps for its captivating, timeless beauty.

Originally the area of Geneva was inhabited by the Timucuan Indians who lived on the banks of the St. Johns River, near Geneva, until the 1700s. For a number of years Geneva was known as the town of Harney Cove, named after Colonel William Selby Harney who received acclaim during the Second Seminole War. Harney Cove later became better known as Geneva, named by Emma Van Brunt Wilcox who stated that the area resembled her hometown of Geneva, New York.

Today with its ideal location and rich history, Geneva is full of many outdoor opportunities. Geneva is home to the Little-Big Econ State Forest that boasts many outdoor recreational opportunities including canoeing, hiking, horseback riding, mountain bike riding, bird watching, fishing, and picnicking. Other outdoor opportunities include Geneva Wilderness Area on Highway 426 that offers hikers a chance to see gopher tortoise, white-tailed deer, wild turkey, and grey fox. Many historical sites can be seen through a stroll around Geneva’s gorgeous outdoors including the old bank vault on Osceola Road, the site of King Phillips Old Town, and the Indian shell mound.

The Geneva Community Center offers residents several indoor opportunities to stay fit through Pilates, yoga, kickboxing, martial arts, Egyptian dancing, Salsa dancing, and Hip Hop. Golf is abundant in Geneva and includes both private and public golf courses.

Geneva is located about 40 minutes from the bright lights of Orlando where amazing dining, shopping, and, of course, theme parks such as Disney World, Universal Studios, and Wet n’ Wild Water Park can all be found. See a shuttle lift off or enjoy the refreshing waves of the Atlantic Ocean thanks to Geneva’s convenient locale of just over an hour to Florida’s space coast.

Home buyers seeking residences with water views and large lots have an abundance to choose from in Geneva. Home sites are generally one acre or more and are priced at around $300,000 and up.

Part of Seminole County Public School System, many of Geneva’s schools have been given the grade of A+ by the Florida Department of Education and have received the five-star award which is given to schools that have shown evidence of exemplary community involvement. Geneva’s well-respected schools include Geneva Elementary School, Jackson Heights Middle School, and Oviedo High School.
