Known as “Tree City USA” Eustis, Florida is a gorgeous, thriving community. As Eustis’ well-deserved distinction implies, tree-lined streets can be seen throughout this town of 18,401 residents. Ideally located within minutes to State Roads 44 and 19, Eustis is approximately 42 miles from Interstate 4 and Orlando, about 30 miles to Interstate 75, and just over one hour to fun in the sun in Daytona Beach. Lake County has a new public bus called Lake Express with routes and stops within Eustis.

Although close to metropolitan cities, Eustis is able to maintain its hometown feel while offering many local jobs and entertainment opportunities. Ferran Park is the oldest park in Eustis and offers many different activities including year-round swimming at the Aquatic Center’s two heated swimming pools including swimming lessons for all ages, water walking classes, First Aid and CPR, and special events. Ferran Park also boasts a jogging trail, shoreline fishing, gazebos, and relaxing benches to enjoy the warm Central Florida sunshine. Tennis courts are available at four different parks throughout the city and you can walk, run, jog, bike, and roller blade on the new track at Sunset Island Park; boat ramps are available on Lakeshore Drive.

Eustis has the honor of having the oldest continuous festival in the state of Florida. Washington’s Birthday Festival originated in 1902 and is still held the last weekend in February and includes a parade, arts and crafts, delicious food, sailing regatta, water ski show, children’s activities, and an always popular carnival.

Always something exciting in Eustis, the downtown merchants hold monthly street parties that include music, dancing, food, and browsing the local shops. Within the Eustis area are more than a dozen shopping centers that include grocery stores and national retail stores.

Eustis is also where professor and archaeologist Dr. Edgar Banks, the inspiration for the “Indiana Jones” character, retired. Dr. Banks was the first person to search for the legendary Ark of the Covenant and retired to Eustis in 1921. The Eustis Historical Museum and Preservation Society has a special room dedicated to Dr. Banks and his incredible travels.

This city on Lake Eustis has some magnificent real estate. Currently the downtown area is revitalizing, with plans for two-story townhomes above retail/office spaces. Condos, apartments, and single-family homes can all be found amidst the lovely trees and range in price from $200,000 to a luxurious $1,000,000.

Part of Lake County, Eustis has six public schools and many area colleges and universities including Lake Sumter Community College, Rollins College, St. Leo College, University of Central Florida, Stetson University, Nova Southeastern University, and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
