Apopka, FL Real Estate

Old Florida charm is alive and well in Apopka, Florida! Apopka is located just 12 miles from Orlando in Orange County. Perfectly placed Apopka, is approximately 40 minutes from Orlando International Airport and approximately one and a half hours from Tampa to the southwest and Cocoa Beach to the southeast.

The city itself is comprised of approximately 30 square miles and more than 45,000 people call Apopka home. Apopka has the distinction of having the longest serving mayor in the state of Florida: Mayor John H. Land, who has been at the helm for over 50 years.

Native American inhabitants gave Apopka its name, meaning "potato eating place." In the 1850s, Apopka's agricultural opportunities became evident because of its ideal location in sunny Central Florida, and this quiet town became an important trading center. The Masons became an integral part of Apopka during this time and built Orange Lodge #36 in 1859; it still stands in its original location at Alabama Avenue and Highway 441 and is the oldest lodge in continuous use in the State of Florida.

The citrus groves of Apopka are starting to share space with new businesses blooming throughout town including Lowe's, Home Depot, Staples and Chili's. New roads are also being built including the new Apopka Bypass that will reduce some of Highway 441's traffic by passing south of the city to rejoin Highway 441 at its junction with Maitland Boulevard.

Apopka is close to major shopping and the major tourist spots of Orlando and yet maintains its small-town feel by offering a local Apopka Fair, outdoor G-rated movies in the park, Apopka Art and Foliage Festival, and more. Apopka also has city youth programs for children including soccer, flag football and cheerleading, dance, karate, tennis, and after school programs. Apopka is also famous for Lake Apopka where outdoor lovers can enjoy fishing and many outdoor activities.

Apopka is part of the Orange County Public School System and enjoys 13 public schools and eight private schools locally. The University of Florida also hosts two satellite campuses in Apopka including the University of Florida College of Pharmacy and the University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Science's Mid-Florida Research and Education Center.

Whether you are looking for a condo, a townhome, or a single-family home, Apopka offers many types of real estate choices. However, if you are looking for a brand-new home, Apopka has numerous new home developments throughout this growing community. Home prices range from the low $100,000s to over $1,000,000. The majority of single-family homes range in price from the low $200,000s to the low $500,000s.
